Cloud storage has numerous advantages such as a lower cost of ownership, embedded disaster recovery and multi-site access. These advanced Cloud Functions come at a cost – namely latency. The overhead of the REST S3 protocol combined with slower communication lines to the cloud slow down cloud processing. Users are frustrated saving files as the hour glass blinks on the screen longer. To overcome these challenges, BridgeSTOR has created the Cloud Storage Edge Cache.
The Cloud Storage Edge Cache has been designed to eliminate performance issues by acting as a sophisticated HTML S3 edge cache. Traditional edge cache devices only save HTML header content so similar requests are handled closer to the users and users have less interaction with web servers. The Cloud Storage Edge Cache is “S3 REST Aware” so the content sent and returned from the Cloud Storage will be cached closer to the users. Sophisticated background threads move the data to Cloud Storage reducing latency for all users. The BridgeSTOR Cloud Storage Servers communicate with the Cloud Storage Edge Cache allowing for quick access to frequently accessed files and the Coronado View Manager is used to lock other Cloud Servers from the file data until all data successfully arrives into the Cloud Storage.

Coronado S3 Edge Cache Features
Sophisticated S3 Edge Cache
The Coronado S3 Edge Cache has been designed to enhance performance when interacting with Cloud Storage. The Coronado Cloud Storage Server will send S3 data to the S3 Edge Cache which promptly writes the data to its internal disk cache and once written a successful acknowledgement is returned back to the Cloud Storage Server allowing it to continue processing additional user requests. Multiple background threads in the Edge Cache which will quickly moves the data in parallel into the Cloud Storage. All future reads will be done from the S3 Edge Cache again removing latency from the system. The Global View Manager is responsible to make sure the cache contains the most recent data and older data will be removed from the cache and recovered from the Cloud Storage
Scalable
Multiple Coronado Cloud Storage Servers may share an S3 Edge Cache which saves money and management as Cloud Storage Servers would no longer be required to have local disk.
High Availability
Two BridgeSTOR S3 Edge Caches may be combined to form a mirrored environment for high availability. Coronado Cloud Storage Servers may be configured to send data in a round robin fashion to both mirrored Caches. Only one S3 Edge Cache communicates to the cloud (Primary Cache). If one cache dies, the other cache will immediately take over the Primary responsibility and continue sending data to the Cloud Storage.
Hi-Speed Disk Cache
The Coronado S3 Edge Cache may use any type of disk including SSD or SATA drives. SSD’s are preferred in Mirrored Environments for lower latency as responses are not returned until data has been written to both Edge Caches.
